Commercial fleets always work hard to comply with laws and regulations and Cellcontrol has a technology solution for companies that are trying to adhere to the new Georgia distracted driving laws.
Government authorities around the globe are increasing laws and regulations to deal with the increased use of mobile devices while driving. Georgia is no exception to this trend and has adopted new distracted driving laws of their own.
The Georgia Distracted driving law was signed by Governor Nathan Deal earlier this year. It went into effect July 1st and is known as the “Hands-Free Georgia Act.” This new law against distracted driving in Georgia makes it illegal to hold your cellphone or mobile device while driving expect to use one button to answer or end a call, also known as hands-free calling. Gov. Deal said he believes this new Georgia distracted driving law will save lives.
Even when companies have specific policies prohibiting the use of mobile devices while driving, enforcement is the key to eliminating this negative behavior. The new Georgia law makes it easier for police to enforce regulations against distracted driving. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in Georgia reports that this is a primary law and it is enforced vigorously.
Having signs on the highway and simply discouraging texting and driving is clearly not enough. It doesn’t stop the process of people using the mobile phones and texting while driving. Georgia is surely not going to be the last State or government ministry to adopt these new laws against texting and driving.
